After watching the movie, you will be left in no doubt that makers of the film Veere Di Wedding were truly inspired by the popular American television show Sex in the City. Well, mostly the characters and the theme of the TV show was build on the new fresh Bollywood consumed story, if you see to the film. Veere Di Wedding, where the cast has been shouting since their first look of the film revealed that it is not ‘chick-flick’ or ‘women empowerment sort of based story, you will see that at least that is true. The film features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Shikha Taslania, Swara Bhaskar and Sumeet Vyas in the film where it is directed by Shashanka Ghosh and produced by Rhea Kapoor.
About the film
The movie surrounds the set of the story as the premises of a Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor)’s wedding to Rishabh Malhotra ( Sumeet Vyas) where Kalindi rejoin her friends group including Avni ( Sonam Kapoor), Meera ( Sikha Taslania) and Sakshi ( Swara Bhaskar).
The backdrop of the common Indian traditional wedding is carried out as satirical take from the characters. Four girls has different characteristics, mannerisms, viewpoints and goals which define them as who they are but surely shares a ultimate bond inbetween them. Meera played by Sikha Taslania is married to a foreigner guy and have a kid as well. Avni played by Sonam Kapoor is career oriented woman who is unable to find a mate for herself. Sakshi played by Swara Bhaskar have an unapologetically behaviour being a smoker and drunk. The film is basically about the chemistry and bond inbetween these four female friends which took a new turn at the wedding.
Why to watch vs Why not
Just as its rival released film Bhavesh Joshi which features Kareena Kapoor’s Cousin Harshwardhan Kapoor, Veere Di Wedding is also a kind of fresh and bolder genre in Bollywood. There are few well-driven male buddy film in Bollywood but female buddy film is kind of genre which is untouched. Shashanka Ghosh who is earlier known for directing Khoobsurat did splendid job to represent the genre with its complete honesty.
There are so much sex oriented jokes or female personal talks in the film which could a brave take to adapt in the film on this style. Well, the star cast and the performances is something itself enough to draw people out to watch the film but giving you a better reason is the excellent chemistry, unique or say fresh concept, less explored genre and the fact it is story based upon friends, not a typical love story are some strong reasons to watch the film. The production value of the film adds up quite a lavish and eye-treating touch to the film. Most loved actor on web and even accounted for great performances in movies, Sumeet Vyas is also a plus point for the film. The sexual commentary and most private talks spinned inbetween women are make sure to be seemed organic in the film. The overall editing of the film is bit of unorganised in terms of the pace as at first half, the film is so fast and second half the film becomes so slow. Some of the scenes were not implying anything to the story, could be trimmed to maintain the film pacier.
